If the second line of your display has gone faded or unreadable, that's sun damage. It's the most common complaint on these heat pumps, and it's why the bezel and control board assembly gets replaced. This shade prevents it.

The control panel faces open sky all day at the equipment pad. Heat and UV bleach the LCD and degrade the keypad until the screen can't be read at all. A shade over the display stops that before it starts.
